Having a suit made is now more common than ever, and although ready-to-wear suits are still quite popular, more men are choosing bespoke suits simply because they offer more value for money and they fit much better overall.

There’s nothing like walking around in a suit made just for you. It will not only give you great self-confidence, but also make the right impression. But if you plan to have a bespoke suit made, how do you ensure that the tailor gets it right?

Here’s how to make sure your tailor understands what you need when ordering a custom suit.

  • Do some research and identify your personal style

If this is your first time ordering a custom set, it’s worth doing some research. For this, a simple search on Google can work wonders. Check out different styles of suits and suits in different colors. By doing research, you can find out what you like and should learn your own personal style.

You’ll find out if you prefer an ‘old school,’ classic look, or if you want something more contemporary. You can even print your finished photo or image order tailor can have something to work on.

  • Learn about fabrics

Now it’s time to get used to the different fabrics and fabrics. While there are many types of fabrics you can choose from, it’s always a good idea to become familiar with the more popular fabrics. Here’s a tip too: if it’s your first suit, you can’t go wrong with dark fabrics; a gray or navy suit is always a good choice.

Fabric weight is also a major consideration. If you sweat easily, your tailor can recommend a nice, lightweight fabric.

Some of the most commonly used fabrics include worsted wool, super 120s, mohair, and flannel. Worsted wool is a versatile type of fabric that is often used as the standard for dark or plain colored suits. Super 120s is a lightweight type of fabric, and mohair is a fabric known for its softness and texture.

Flannel is also a popular fabric that is not only lightweight, but also comfortable in all seasons.

  • Tell them what it’s for

When talking to your tailor, it’s best to tell them as much as you can about your preferences. Tell them how you view your personal style – do you dress casually a lot, or do you wear a suit every day? Have you ordered a suit for your wedding?

Be honest with the tailor and tell them what you expect from the suit and how you want it to be used, and they should be able to provide you with a better quality suit based on what you need.
