LED luminaires are the lighting choice of the future and have taken over the aura of inevitability. The lighting industry has changed over the years, all because of LED lights. It is now clear that LED lights offer many benefits; from reduced power costs, longevity and environmental safety to reliability and lower maintenance costs. However, all of these benefits were known and led the industry to adopt LED lamps as a standard lighting option.
These semi-conductors light up skyscrapers, airports, malls, retail stores, and every conceivable public and industrial space. In addition to the benefits already known, LEDs can also be controlled by sensors and via intelligent networks to automate the lighting process. in outer space, LED street lightflood lights, landscape lights facilitate all public places effectively and efficiently.
So while the benefits of LED lighting are usually outlined regarding energy efficiency, there are other, lesser known advantages of using LED Luminaires.
Migration of Birds and Light Pollution
Light pollution is becoming an increasing concern for scientists. It threatens wildlife by disrupting biological rhythms. The glowing orange glow over major cities has disrupted the behavior of birds to navigate during their migration season.
Urban areas like New York have been directed by the government to turn on or dim the building lights at night to help migratory birds navigate in spring and autumn. By turning off the lights during natural migration season, birds can follow their natural paths and avoid them deadly light – the phenomenon in which birds are confused by electric lights and cause them to crash into buildings.
Light wavelengths (red, yellow and orange) greater than 600 nm can affect the ability to navigate birds. Bright conventional lighting systems emit a greater proportion of red light above 600 nm. Birds can sense the near ultraviolet portion of the light spectrum (wavelength 320-400 nm) for navigation.
How can LED Lights help?
Street lights and spotlights based on conventional lighting solutions cannot match the precision and dimming of LED luminaires. Because the LED light is focused, the amount of light spilled out is less. The light distribution of the LEDs allows for precise control that can highlight architecture and buildings without illuminating the night sky. Excessive amounts of light at night can disrupt normal circadian rhythms, affect bird migration, and also waste resources.

LED luminaires can be automated and controlled by facility managers. LED lights can be integrated with IoT (Internet of Things) through a network that allows facility managers to have control based on remote access. The LED light can be dimmed and turned off remotely shift from short to long wavelengths of light. Changing the wavelength will change the color temperature of the LED luminaire which will ultimately help the birds to navigate. LEDs emit more blue light than conventional lighting systems, and all light is emitted in the visible spectrum. Because LEDs are dimmable; the need to turn off exterior lighting completely can be eliminated.
The four components of light pollution –
- Urban Sky Light – Bright night sky
- Misdemeanor – Light falls on areas it is not wanted, needed or intended for.
- Dazzled – Excessive brightness causing visual discomfort and reduced visibility
- Chaos – Confusing, bright, and excessive grouping of light sources; found in urban areas that are too bright.
The proliferation of the above-mentioned components contributes greatly to light pollution. Use LED street light instead of conventional lighting solutions will reduce light violations and glare. A study by the Optical Society shows that LED luminaires have high optical frequency, high optical utilization factor, illuminate the road with high uniformity and low glare.

With IP66 protection and best-in-class LED chips, it is the lighting fixture of choice for street lighting. Built-in electronic drivers and toughened glass ensure minimal glare. LED street light can also be controlled on the network when integrated with IoT. Because automation is a larger part of the LED image; they are the desired lighting solution for all public applications.
Control Options
Previously during the conventional lighting era, changing the color of the lights in a building would require multiple workers to climb up the building and change filters. Not only is the process expensive, but also time consuming. The flood lights that illuminate facades, columns and more cannot be changed on the fly, and their output remains constant. With LED-based luminaires and remote control access, the entire exterior of a building can be transformed at the touch of a button.
The input from a single device can change the color, pattern, and the output will change the whole look of the building. LEDs have made interconnection between devices easier. With superior control, a large number of different sensors can be integrated and monitored over a network. This has opened the gates for the future and LED enables intelligent lighting solutions, both effectively and efficiently.
Light Therapy
LED is a light source that emits infrared light when current is passed. When certain devices like Quasar MD Blue and Quasar MD Plus are used on the skin (in a controlled setting), they are a fantastic way to rejuvenate the skin. Using the correct wavelength of light from the LED source, cells in the dermis layer of the skin will convert this light energy into ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is the cell’s fuel.
Fibroblast cells in the dermis produce collagen (which makes skin look fuller) and elastin (which gives skin its resilience). LED luminaires are used for light therapy to provide fuel to cells, which in turn helps produce collagen and elastin, thereby improving uneven skin tone. Studies demonstrated that LED light therapy increased photoaging scores by up to 50%, and reported significant improvement in periorbital wrinkles. LEDs are continuously being researched and used for their additional health benefits.
With increasing awareness about energy conservation and green technology, LED is the only way. LED luminaires bridge the gap between lighting applications and technology. Today, lighting is an environmental problem because of the significant increase in power consumption and light pollution that affects all life. LEDs have the potential to change the face of lighting and as such are currently being aggressively adopted by countries to automate and save the environment for future generations.
