The American has been into racing cars ever since the Ford brothers invented them. Americans love to race and they love to get the most out of their racing cars. There are several types of American cars that fall into the muscle car category, and one of the most famous and loved muscle cars of all time is the Ford Mustang.
There’s no doubt that the Mustang has left its mark on American racing for many years, and there’s a good chance it will continue to do so for years to come.
Mustang Race Car
Over the years, there have been several famous Ford Mustangs in the American racing scene, including the Shelby Mustang, which is perhaps the most famous. The Shelby Mustang is an icon among American muscle cars for both its design and power. First produced between 1965 and 1970, the Shelby name returned to Mustang in 2007 for the high-performance version of the Mustang. Apart from Shelby, there are several other Mustangs that have made an impression on American racing circles, including:
- Cobra – This Mustang is built by the Ford Special Vehicles Team and is a high-performance version of the standard road Mustang made by Ford.
- Saleen – This version of the Mustang was first built in 1984 and over the years has become a high-performance race car. He had much success at several races, including the 24 Hours of Daytona.
- Roush – The Roush Mustang is known for its power and performance and has been a regular on the stock car racing circuit since the early 90’s. Been in the winner’s circle a few times too.
- GT – The Mustang GT was born back in 1994 built on the same platform as the base model (SN95), but had better handling and higher performance. It features a V8 engine and is capable of moving like a race car. It goes from zero to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds and can cover the quarter mile in about 15 seconds.
