Life, is a vast ocean, peaceful and undisturbed. It’s serene, gentle and soothing. When a storm arises, the ocean becomes restless, boundless, and chaotic. However, behind it all, in the end it remains strong and creative. The thought process has the same aspect. To understand the nature of what nourishes your mind is to master it and use it to your advantage in all circumstances. One circumstance that our time seems to rule today is a busy life where day runs into night and vice versa.
When our sleep is disrupted with incessant and unwanted thoughts, our whole life suffers from the side effects known as stress and lack of energy. Learning how to manage the flow of thoughts when sleep deprived is essential for anyone who wants to keep their focus and excellence growing. Here are some tips to help you learn to manage yourself even when the tide gets rough.
In the morning
When you wake up and you feel that your sleep has not been of the best quality, your mind will tend to take you to the lowest place it knows. Your thoughts will be in tune with your feelings. Remove your thoughts from your mind and direct them toward your breath. Breathe consciously 9 times, empowering each one with a vision of success. Place yourself in the center of the breath and follow its path from your heart where everything exists meaningfully into your vision where everything is seen purposefully.
At lunch
When half a day had passed, his energy level naturally got lower. When sleep deprivation is being felt, it’s time to trick the mind with distraction. Take a moment to direct your energy stream to the memories that empower your senses: songs that effortlessly remind you of joy, images that naturally vibrate with happiness, scents that fill your cellular system with peace. Also remember to eat lightly. Foods that are heavy to digest require a lot of energy directed to the digestive system. Snacks limit energy expenditure ensuring that you save some of your precious fuel for what matters most.
In the afternoon
Managing the flow of energy means learning how to spend it wisely and learning how to replenish it endlessly. When a small cat naps are not available in the afternoon and the demand for focus remains high, the mind must be trained to redefine its needs. Focus doesn’t have to be “expensive” in terms of energy. It can be refilled too. Take five minutes in your afternoon to consciously write down 10 reasons to stay focused and committed to your day. Hold them close by as a reminder that this vision you can clearly feel is the reason you breathe, smile, enjoy, and feel empowered with purpose.
At night
The day has passed and even though your body needs rest to function again soon, the thought process, busy planning and uninterrupted thoughts keep you from falling asleep peacefully. Thoughts that come as an incessant stream seeking a way out. They take up too much space and prevent output. Before going to bed, take 5 or 10 minutes to write down all the thoughts that come to mind. Be the loud voice for people who are more worried. Once thoughts are on paper, they free up space within you so you can find peace again.
These tricks are part of the mindful practice that should become a daily discipline. Training the mind is a challenging task that can only be accomplished through practice and repetition. There are no secrets with life. Only those who want to change, change their way of thinking, open their minds to new possibilities and let the routines that suit their goals stand out.
