Whenever Valentine’s Day comes around, there’s a mixed feeling of trepidation, especially if you’re single at the moment. Besides the taunts you get from family and friends, you have to contend with all the heart decorations and lovey-dovey couples around you. But you know what can make today great? Your group of single or supportive girl friends who are willing to ditch their boyfriends to spend the day with you.
So what if it’s Valentine’s Day? You can celebrate love another day or better yet every day! For all the single ladies out there, here’s how you can celebrate V-day with your awesome friends.
Anti-Valentine Movie Marathon
There’s a reason why some people are still single when Cupid celebrates his day. It could be, he is just in a relationship and not ready to commit again; dating casually but not ready to settle down; too busy to date; and so on and so on. While happily single for a time, things like Valentine’s Day can often knock you off this axis of contentment, magnifying the feelings of loneliness you feel from time to time, and the longing to find someone to share your life with. Your awesome group of friends can feel the same way, so if you’re planning a movie marathon, stay away from sappy romance and rom-coms.
These movies are great any other time except V-day. In fact, you can watch all the anti-Valentine movies you want to your heart’s content. When I say Anti-Valentine, I don’t mean “I hate Valentine’s Day” movies. Instead, it would be a great time to catch up on all those action blockbusters you can’t get enough of on the big screen.
Bake-a-thon
Baking like shopping is very therapeutic especially if you are stressed out by being single or just want to hang out with your fellow single female friends. Bake-a-thon will also do less damage to your wallet than retail therapy and the best part is, you have a perfect excuse to throw a “desserts only” party. Let your friends come over and let each of them prepare their own favorite dessert. A sugar rush releases endorphins but remember not to overdo it as too much sugar can put you at risk for diabetes.
Sing Yourself
So what if you can’t sing as well as finalists on The Voice or other singing competitions on television. There are no rules when it comes to singing Karaoke and Simon Cowell can’t rain down your parade even if you sing a few notes out of key. Singing your heart out to karaoke is one of the best ways to relieve stress and drive away the sad feelings associated with the heart on V-day. Sing everything from blues to pop to jazz to rock. Don’t be afraid if you can’t hit the high notes. No one will judge you. What matters is that you have fun with your favorite people in the world.
Go to the disco
Who said you always have to be with a guy to have fun? One of the things I like to do is get my girlfriends together and go clubbing. I like to have reasons to dress up and wear sexy club dress and party all night with my boyfriend. It’s also a great way to meet new people or find potential dates. If karaoke isn’t your thing then get ready to dance the night away. Even without a man by your side, you can still have fun with your bff. Valentine’s Day is a day for love but not just the romantic type. So spend the day with your loved ones and make Valentine’s day every day.
