For centuries, people have enjoyed honey as a delicious sweet treat and a welcome addition to their diets, but did you know that this amazing substance can do more than just satisfy a sugar craving?
The many widespread properties of honey, and its ability to never spoil (honey has been found in Egyptian tombs), make it the perfect substance to store for long-term food storage, and more than one way to get you out of a bind.
Here are seven of a long list of amazing and unusual honey uses.
1. Colds and Sore Throats
Many people already know that honey can be an excellent remedy for sore throats, but many people don’t know that honey is also a great cold remedy. So much so that some people take a teaspoon of honey along with other morning vitamins, as they are said to boost immunity. While nothing can cure a cold once you have one, you can be sure that honey will provide great relief from the symptoms.
2. Antiseptic
Another use of honey is as a wound dressing. It has antibacterial properties—part of what makes it last—and has been used for centuries as an antibacterial agent to treat cuts, burns, and skin ulcers, among other things. When used in this way, it is known to reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain, and can help prevent the bandage from sticking to the skin.
3. Skin care
If you want to make a face mask at home, honey is an ingredient present in most recipes. It has excellent moisturizing properties, as well as being a gentle exfoliant and acne remover. It can work wonders just by applying it to a blemish.
4. Energy Enhancer
Energy drinks with fancy labels and gallons of chemicals are expensive and unnecessary. Think of honey as a natural energy booster, with its high glucose content known to help reduce fatigue and increase mental acuity. Try mixing honey with a glass of water and you have your own natural energy drink.
5. Hair care
For stressed hair, honey can work wonders. Honey can reduce frizz, stimulate growth, and add moisture to your hair. This makes it a good conditioner or even something to use in a hair mask. Surprisingly, honey can also be used as a natural hair dye. Try combining a little honey with a little lemon juice, and you can instantly add natural highlights to your hair.
6. Deodorant
Honey has a fairly distinct odor, but it can also get rid of bad odors by absorbing odors. This has its benefits when applied to nasty sores, but can also come in handy if you have issues with smelly feet, underarm body odor, or maybe you’ve run out of deodorant! If you are experiencing any of these problems, try coating the area with honey for a few minutes while in the shower.
7. Treats Anxiety
Well what do you know? Honey can treat the mind as well as the body. Try a little honey in your tea, or maybe some porridge with honey and you will find that the anxiety will leave your mind and you will feel calm again.
