A love story between an Apple fan and an iOS device would make for a better love story than Twilight – a much better love story. iPhone aficionados carry their lovers with them wherever they go, and are endlessly fixated on them whenever someone sets their sights on one of the myriad iPhone owners. However, the fact that it was a huge hit among owners also meant the temptation was there to be stolen too.
It takes more than just an iPhone tracker to recover your lost phone especially since your personal data will also be at stake if the device is stolen. That’s why we need to backup iPhone data to iTunes/iCloud or to PC using a free iPhone transfer tool, before it was too late after the device was stolen. Thankfully, the Apple hierarchy have come up with mechanisms whereby you can keep our devices and personal data safe from the maneuvers of cell phone spies.
Here’s what you need to know:
Passcode Lock
Start with the Passcode lock, which can be found after going to Settings then the General tab. Turn on Passcode as your first line of security. The code that will be asked is a simple four-digit code but you will need to use a longer password which will increase the security of your phone even more. If you slide the Simple Passcode switch to ‘OFF’ then a longer password option will be generated, which should ideally be alphanumeric.
Once the lock is active, you will also have access to many other options. There will be Siri access, as well as a ‘Clear Data’ option. Also, if anyone trying to hack your account competes to guess your password, the data on your phone will be deleted – and by data we mean contact information, passwords, texts, etc.
Find My iPhone
With the first step, the next step is to familiarize yourself with the security application that will keep track of the iPhone. Ironically, Find My iPhone is a kind of iPhone tracker. It’s similar to comic books, where good guys and bad guys have superpowers, it’s only how they use them that sets them apart.
Even though the name is not very complete, Find My iPhone can also track iPod Touch and iPad. After installing the app, you must activate it by going to Settings then iCloud. There you need to make sure that the Location Services option is active.
Flip Side
Picture this: your device is stolen, and you go to www.icloud.com, enter your ID to track your stolen device from a web browser. But what if you forget to turn on Passcode Lock? Can you still find the device? Well it depends on how smart the thief is. If they know a thing or two about iOS, they can disable Passcode Lock themselves by going to Location Services. This is a big gap in the Find My iPhone case.
