Dating isn’t what it used to be. It’s rare to just walk up to someone you’re interested in, ask for their number and see if they’re interested in dating you. It’s too old-fashioned and low-tech for today’s generation of kids. Tweeting, texting and Facebook have completely replaced the traditional dating style we are used to.
Before this generation, people would ask other people to do this thing called “dating”. This usually involves a boy coming up to a girl and asking if she wants to go out and have dinner, a movie, a picnic, or some other type of activity that requires the two individuals to interact with one another. If the boy is really shy, he might even try to call the girl and ask her out. Nowadays, only the bravest of the brave would make such a bold move.
Dating, one of the best ways to get to know someone, has moved from its former art form to a night of hanging out with large groups, playing video games, and eating doritos. Since asking someone out has become less formal, dating has become less formal. There are times when a man is up to something good, but most of the time, going out will be much less impressive than before.
With social media, people tend to be more adventurous than in person. They are more willing to say things they would not say in person, making it feel like they have a very strong personality and presence, when in reality, they are not that brave and outgoing. The fact that you can seamlessly communicate with someone via the internet, doesn’t necessarily imply direct interaction. Not only that, but in many circumstances you don’t even know who you’re talking to.
Social media isn’t the only thing that ruins the dating experience. Technology in general has been both a blessing and a burden to those looking for love.
Texting has replaced phone calls, but cell phones have made everyone more accessible. Photo editing software has made images more attractive, but they can be misleading. Facebook and Twitter posts have made your feelings more transparent than ever before. Webcams have made long distance relationships and traveling more acceptable to the parties involved but have become part of the reason for one person to stay away from the other.
Technology has become so involved in our lives that it has completely infiltrated every aspect of our lives, including dating. It provides many benefits to the lives of singles and couples around the world, but it can also be a tool used to mislead and hurt people. Technology is a great tool for finding people and communicating, but it shouldn’t be relied on as the main source of communication.
