Friends are great. A true haven for both heart and mind, they are constant gardeners ensuring the beauty of our inner garden and the joy that inhabits it. When it comes to friends, some are even closer to us and those are our best friends. They touch our souls, refresh our minds, enrich our lives and more than anything remind us that the sun always shines even if we don’t always see it.
This post celebrates those whose souls are always open to comfort, laughter and truth. They are our closest brothers and sisters. To be blessed by one or more of these angels in our lives means to be touched by divine grace.
There are some tips for becoming one of those angels who can touch the lives of others and forever make a mark in universal memory with Love, care and kindness. Here are 5 of the best it has to offer you so you can brighten your best friend’s day in no time.
1 – Listen with your heart
A friend who needs a little cheer may not always need advice or a lecture. Sometimes, the simplest way to be friends is to offer a listening ear, letting his stress easily get carried away by his words and freeing up space inside. The “duty” of friends is to ensure that a sense of belonging, togetherness and support is always available. Listening is one of the most significant soulful leadership talents and for that reason: listening means offering the other person space to speak his or her truth and ultimately broaden one’s own experience.
Many people will walk in our life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart. ~Eleanor Roosevelt
2 – Embrace it with your smile
There is nothing simpler than a smile to connect two people. When words may not be enough or perhaps too many, a friend’s smile has the power to be a true hug through which relief is felt and light is brought. A simple smile is an ever-open gate to compassion and kindness which is the strongest bridge to friendship.
Every time you smile at someone it is an act of Love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. ~Mother Teresa
3 – Be comfortable with your silence
Presence is friendship in action. No need for words. The simple comfort of knowing that someone is always by your side, discreetly, standing beside you, is enough to brighten any day and lift any mood. Most friendships are about being together and most of the best friendships are about connection. The feeling of knowing that comfort is only a thought, a heartbeat or a smile away is one of the simplest reminders of your best friend’s Love.
The best friend is the one who can sit on the porch, never say a word, then walk away feeling that it was the best conversation you’ve ever had. ~ Unknown
4 – Laugh with your soul
Laughter is healing for the soul, so it’s no wonder why it’s a simple way to share love with those you love and care about. Laughter releases endorphins just like exercise, joy, love, or sexual orgasm. As well as giving the mind a “buzz,” these endorphins enhance our mind’s ability to ignore pain. It calms the soul by releasing stress. Be the friend whose sense of humor can always provide a lighthearted feeling that calls for joy and peace of mind.
Among those whom I like or admire, I cannot find a common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can; everything makes me laugh. ~WH Auden
5 – Speak your truth
The difference between acquaintances and friends is the degree of honesty, trustworthiness and integrity. The saying goes that the truth will set you free, but first it might piss you off. It takes a friend to be able to tell the truth without taking it personally. When friends share words, they are sharing some of their ultimate message, vision, and sense of self. The form (words) is more important than the substance (truth) they contain. Speak from your heart and from your soul and all your words will emerge as vessels of healing to uplift your best friend’s life with ease.
Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty. ~ Sicilian proverb
