Kolkata is the cheapest metro city to live in, in India. Not only food, but accommodation and even public transportation are very cheap here. If you are into backpacking, Kolkata is your ideal stop as there are hotels where you can still find rooms for Rs 400-500 per night.
While I would recommend those hotels, there are definitely some very decent hotels on a budget, all over Kolkata. Let me tell you about some of them.
1). Hotel Sita
If you’re near Howrah Station and want to stay near the station for whatever reason, this is the hotel you’ll want to try. Very highly rated on online travel portals (yatra, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo and similar), this hotel offers more than decent accommodation at a fairly low rate. The rooms are spacious and well decorated and have basic amenities like TV, AC, private bathroom with running water hot water and you can use the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner.
Bellboys are multilingual and approachable, doctor on call, hotel arranges car hire and 24X7 desk. Apart from that, the view is quite good and the nearby Ganga is a constant source of fresh air.
2). Astar Hotel
The choice is difficult as this is the center of Kolkata and here you will find all the hotels in Kolkata, confusing you with the choices. I chose Astaria because we are discussing budget hotels here. That doesn’t mean I went for the lowest price available, Hotel Astaria is actually a very nice accommodation on Sudder Street from where Park Street and New Market are both within walking distance. Astaria offers all the common necessities for a comfortable stay and is quiet enough from the usual Din and bustle of Kolkata.
3). Innra Hotel
If you are looking for accommodation in North Kolkata, it is safe to assume that you are looking for a room nearby Seadah Station and therein lies this little gem. This is a fairly new hotel and that explains the interior is in top shape.
This is located 5 minutes from Sealdah, next to the AJC Bose flyover. Here you will find every type of cuisine— Bengali, Indian, Chinese and continental and the hotel prides itself on its kitchen. However, accommodation is our main goal and the rooms are very well maintained here. You will find every convenience you could want for a comfortable stay.
4). Treebo Casa Broadway
Don’t ask me what the name means but I can tell you one thing; this is the best value for money hotel you will find in South Kolkata. They have parking space, near to Kalighat Kali temple and Jadabpur University. They have very nicely decorated rooms, TV, AC, Wi-Fi and even a kettle for pre-timed tea or coffee. This is a very highly rated hotel Yatras as well. Waiters and front desk are always at your service to make your stay comfortable.
5). Magnificent Suites
Air travelers to Kolkata will of course look for accommodation near the airport and there are some very good hotels here. I chose The Majestic Suites because it gives you luxury accommodation within a budget. The hotel is only 3 km from the airport by taxi and car always available. The rooms are spacious, well decorated, well attended and I would highly recommend their excellent room service. The food is pretty decent and it’s basically a business hotel.
There he is. I have covered every part of Kolkata so you can use the information to find the good and cheap hotels in Kolkata. These hotels are affordable, conveniently located, and within budget, so they are on my list. Sometimes, you are not satisfied in a 5-star hotel and sometimes, you love lodging. It all depends on the specific stay. I hope your stay in this hotel will be a pleasant experience for you.
